Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Lexington, MA and later this year permanently in Cambridge, MA.

 

As the Team Leader, you will provide oversight and support to vivarium operations and staff under the direction of the on-site supervisor. You will work independently assisting research staff with daily study activities and colony maintenance. In addition, you will provide backup for husbandry tasks including basic animal checks, animal holding room checks, cage change activities, cleaning and sanitization of animal holding rooms, support of the enrichment and general animal health programs, and assistance in the monitoring of environmental conditions of critical support spaces.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Assist in the creation, assignment and monitoring of work scheduled for daily husbandry and study support.
  • Responsible for strictly maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels in collaboration with client vivarium management.
  • Manage weaning and genotyping activities for all internal colonies and delegate these tasks as necessary.
  • Work in collaboration with client research team to perform project support work including dosing, bleeding, and observations.
  • Conduct room inspections to assess the animals’ health and cage environment as well as all related paperwork and record keeping.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced staff on operations and facility issues. Specific responsibilities include investigating operational issues, including gathering information and details, compiling the information, and submitting/presenting it along with recommendation(s) for resolution of the situation/issue to the facility manager. Provide training to new hires in the duties and responsibilities of animal care and facility operations. 
  • Monitor animal health and welfare daily through observations and by performing animal husbandry duties, including daily checks of water bottles/automatic water lines and cages; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cleaning as required; and recording animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Team Leader position.

 

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years directly related laboratory animal experience in an AAALAC accredited facility.
  • Prior supervisory experience or experience in a leadership role desired.
  • AALAS certification at the LAT level preferred.

 

The pay range for this position is $33-35 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
