The Vancouver Public Library is seeking a Library School student interested in gaining experience in a public library setting. The student will work in a public service unit in the Information Services department at our Central Library in downtown Vancouver. The work schedule will be Sunday to Thursday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. This is a 4-month term, from May through the end of August.
Job Summary: Working under the direction of the supervising Librarian, the Student Librarian provides reference and information services to the public, performs collection development tasks, participates in training and workshops, answers direction and general information questions regarding location of material, facilities or other matters, and assists in special projects. This is professional library work at the trainee level.
Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in the MLIS program in September 2024 and be graduating in 2025.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Some knowledge of the practices and principles of librarianship.
- Some knowledge of the objectives, organization, procedures, services and resources of the subject division or branch.
- Some knowledge of the division or branch’s collections and related resource materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to meet the public, promote interest in library services and assist library patrons.

Salary: $29.13 to $34.23 per hour
