The Shop Foreman is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of the shop process and operations strategy in support of the overall business plan and the strategic direction of the company, specifically in the areas of day-to-day operations regarding shop technicians, corporate safety and quality. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The development, effectiveness and efficiency of the day to day operations of the shop facility working within vision as directed by Applied Canada management team and with the support of the technical services team, TSRs and CSRs.
  • Working on a day-today basis to improve technicians daily work utilization, distribute work as needed.
  • Supervise the shop administration personnel as required to be effective in the overall scope of shop repairs and SAP functions/ quoting and invoicing.
  • Supervise on-site quoting as required by customers to develop and issue a quote to customers as needed.
  • Promote and actively lead our safety program to ensure all processes are within regulations and program is implemented successfully and standards are up held.
  • Monitor, maintain and focus on continuous improvement of the shop Quality System to ensure corporate and customer quality standards are up held. 
  • Conduct weekly/regular tool-box and staff meetings with employees.
  • Conduct monthly/regular safety meetings with shop and safety committee employees.
  • Determine schedules, sequences and assignments for work activities based on work priority, availability of equipment and skill of personnel.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in processing and development of customer owned product.
  • Supervise and coordinate rush jobs, overtime and on-call technician time and schedule.
  • Create review and approve repair, machining and fabrication proposals/quotations as required.
  • Make recommendations to the management regarding capital requirements, personnel training requirements, employee development needs and other expenses based on the needs of the operation
  • Review orders for profitability, communicate suggestions for improvement to staff and management
  • Review processes to identify shop efficiencies and make recommendations on potential changes to management.
  • Ability to work safely, lead by example and contribute to overall company safety program
  • Provide clear and concise communication to employees and management.
  • Leadership role in hiring process of future shop employees.
  • Primary technical contact for customers regarding shop services.

 

Work Experience:

 

Experience will be gathered over time, for now you are capable / doing most of these functions. It is key to communicate with shop personnel, administration, vendors and most importantly customers. The Shop Foreman is working with shop personnel, administration and vendors for the overall goal of exceeding the customers’ expectations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Qualified individual with 3-5 years of progressive experience in a shop setting
  • Computer skills working with work order management systems and Microsoft Office programs. SAP Production knowledge is an asset.
  • In-depth understanding of the products and services offered by Applied Industrial Technologies and the value brought to our customers
  • Above average working knowledge of the technical aspects of the products we manufacture and distribute the products available to access and the industrial market place we service.
  • Proven ability to understand the potential service needs of customers
  • Self motivated and ability to work independently
  • Ability to mentor and lead team towards common goal
  • Well organized with great attention to detail and organizational abilities
