As the Regional Safety Manager, your mission is to ignite a culture of safety excellence, putting Canfor at the forefront of health and safety for our employees and customers alike. At Canfor, safety isn’t just a priority; it’s ingrained in our DNA with our core value of “Safety Comes First.” Your role is pivotal: you’ll work hand-in-hand with Health & Safety Advisors at the mills, Plant Management, and all team members to roll out, execute, and sustain safety initiatives aligned with our overarching strategy. Together, we’re striving to craft the best working environment and achieve our shared goal of eradicating work-related incidents across all CSP facilities in Alabama. This role can be based in any of our Alabama operations, including Fulton, Jackson, Mobile, or Axis.

 

The life of the Regional Safety Manager includes:

 

  • Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times, leading by example
  • Act as a resource for CSP facilities in Alabama in the development and implementation of standardized safety and loss prevention programs
  • Be a leader in building safety competencies in employees at all levels which ensures alignment of behaviors with expectations and goals
  • Collaborate with management teams on safety training for all employees
  • Review, revise, and audit the Safety Orientation of all employees regularly
  • Conduct mock OSHA inspections and work with Plant Management to keep facilities in compliance
  • Effectively report on safety metrics using safety indicator measures (TRIF, DART, etc.)
  • Ensure preparedness for emergencies through processes, structure, and resources to sustain effective emergency management
  • Projects as assigned that may have regional, national, or global scope

 

For this role, come equipped with:

 

  • 7-10 years of leadership experience in creating and executing safety programs for a mid to large-size manufacturing organization.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in the sawmilling or wood products industry
  • Incident investigation skills and training as well as experience with emergency management processes, requirements, and structure including auditing knowledge.
  • Subject matter expert in OSHA regulations and safety best practices
  • Familiarity with investigating on-site critical safety incidents and working with OSHA on remediation activities
  • Demonstrated experience championing Industrial Loss Prevention programs
  • Ability to travel across the US south operations in Alabama

 

In a perfect world, you also possess a degree in Business, Forestry, or a field related to Industrial operations. A Professional Safety Designation, such as CRSP, CSP, or CMIOSH, is considered an asset.
