  • Work with product managers, sales, and customers to determine product needs and refine into technical specifications
  • Engage with product managers, R&D, and product development teams to help define and execute the product line roadmap
  • Own product design and documentation (component selection, material specifications, bills of material, drawings, technical sales literature, etc) and ensure manufacturing documentation (work instructions, labor routing) is complete and accurate
  • Create and process engineering change requests (ECO/ECR) and temporary design deviations to document changes to product design and documentation
  • Evolve the product line by championing (or supporting) new product development (stage gate process) and continuous improvement projects to improve product performance, reduce cost, improve manufacturability, improve quality, etc
  • Ensure design outputs designed and solutions employed (for components, assemblies, final products) meet all required internal and external specifications, industry codes and regulations (e.g. CGA, ASME, DOT), etc
  • Lead, or participate in, risk analysis activities (DFMEA)
  • Manage definition, prioritization and delegation of tasks to shared engineering resources (e.g. design, team, analysis team, etc)
  • Create, manage, and communicate basic timelines for completion of critical tasks and projects (using Gantt charts, as necessary)
  • Create, or support creation of design validation test plans and (as-required) conduct testing of components, assemblies, and final products
  • Improve product consistency and reduce variance and warranty claims by working across the organization to identify and resolve potential defects
  • Ensure consistent utilization of best practices in engineering design and continuous improvement of those processes
