BWXT is seeking a Mechanical Design Tech to join our growing team in Mount Vernon, IN!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical guidance for a production machining operation while maintaining support for the Company’s safety culture and security requirements.
  • Reviews machining operations and drives continuous improvements for first time quality and efficiency.
  • Generates set up drawings, procedures, information, specifications, or other technical documentation as required.
  • Provides guidance and support for establishing and maintaining machining processes, machining drawings and guidelines, investigating and implementing corrective actions, reviewing change requests, support special projects such as equipment procurement, generating estimates for development, troubleshooting, serving on process improvement teams, and supporting the Company’s safety culture and security requirements.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects in a team environment.
  • Provides expertise and input on new machine specifications, verification, and try-outs.
  • Works closely with NC programmers, Tool Applications, Machine Shop Managers, Suppliers and Machinists.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Engineering, Planning, Quality and Project Management.

 

Requirements:

  • An Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Precision Machining Technology or other related technical field, with at least 4 years of related experience in an engineering, machining, or similar manufacturing role is required.
  • Ability to generate 3D solid models and/or detail drawings.
  • Experience with both manual and CNC machining preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cutting tools, including but not limited to drills, end mills, face mills, reamers, shell mills, side mills, turning tools, taps, boring tools, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually, as well as, in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a self-starter and highly motivated; willing and able to follow verbal and written instructions, procedures, or standard work practices.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills relative to machining and CNC processes.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing tasks/problems including administrative tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship.

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $97,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed ‘at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
