Project Overview:

Mining and Metals: 

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before. 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides knowledge and expertise in a particular discipline, subject matter, or specialized process required for construction (e.g., tunnel boring, site de-watering, glove boxes, special coatings systems, HVAC systems, Fire Detection and Suppression, reactor tender gallery coordinator, etc.) 
  • Provides technical consultation support to projects. 
  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches. 
  • Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of “as built” drawings and other job plans.   
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases.  
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment. 
  • Leads the verification of commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.  
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. 
  • Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities 
  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans

Education and Experience Requirements:

 Required bachelor’s degree(or equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid knowledge in earthworks, foundations, concrete, reinforcement reinforcement (rebar), embedded elements (embeds), anchor bolts, structural steel and architectural interfaces, ensuring that the construction is executable and complies with technical specifications, applicable standards and IFC plans
  • Understanding of CSA technical standards, constructive methodologies and work sequences applicable to large-scale industrial projects, including integration with mechanical, electrical and instrumentation disciplines
  • Ability to verify the availability and preparation of Field skecth plans, quantities, materials, embeds, anchor bolts, accesses, inspections and resources necessary to support the execution of IWPs, field activities and milestones of the construction program
  • Experience in quantity, quality, productivity and physical progress control, using corporate tools and construction management platforms, including Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAP) and progress measurement systems
  • Knowledge of layout, rethinking and installation of CSA elements, support in progress measurement, identification and resolution of NCRs, as well as implementation of preventive actions to minimize rework and constructive deviations
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with IHO, construction, surveying, quality and other disciplines, identifying systemic risks, restrictions or interferences and escalating them in a timely manner to protect the schedule, cost and quality of the project
  • Ability to timely identify, evaluate and escalate restrictions, systemic risks and constructive problems that may affect the safety, quality, deadline or cost of the project, promoting timely solutions and avoiding rework.
