This position may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or wiling to relocate (relocation packages available to those who qualify).

 

We are looking for:   EPC Project Manager

 

The EPC Project Manager oversees complex projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. The Project Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, quality control and status reporting and closing on assigned projects.

 

Electric Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Project Management is an organization within the Enterprise Project Management business segment and is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of large low- and high-voltage electric distribution projects with an emphasis on those investments involving large customers, reliability improvements, infrastructure modernization and process optimization. The team’s success is measured through making and meeting commitments, informing and offering customer options, and delivering safe, reliable service all in support of the Company’s overall business strategy.

 

EPC Project Managers oversee the planning, implementing, quality control, and status reporting on a given project and manages the project team, which typically consists of people from all the areas of the organization. The EPC Project Manager is responsible for precisely defining the scope of the project; preparing the project schedule, and updating that schedule as it evolves; proposing the project budget, and then managing the project so that it doesn’t cause cost overruns; making sure the project team has the supplies and human resources necessary to get the project done on time and on budget; identifying and minimizing potential risks to the project timeline and budget; making sure that all project team members understand what their responsibilities are; communicating the project’s progression to management; and ensuring the quality of the team’s work and any supplies or materials used by the team.

  • Bachelor’s degree in applied engineering or relevant field with two (2) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience
    • [OR] Associate’s degree in applied engineering or relevant field with six (6) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience
    • [OR] High School Diploma with ten (10) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Project management experience working in accordance with EPM Project Lifecycle Processes (PLP) framework to improve predictability and effectively manage project risk is required

 

In this role, you will 

 

  • Responsible for one or more projects or portions of projects with varying complexity equaling a total annual budget amount of $500,000 to $5 million that may be single year or multi-year projects.
  • Ensure project results contribute positive business value in support of meeting Electric T&D department goals.
  • Meet agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives
  • Develop and maintain project plans that provide timely deliverables to achieve project objectives
  • Identify initial risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution
  • Work collaboratively with other functional areas in the development of project tasks and deliverables ensuring the successful execution of projects
  • Manage multiple projects at various stages of development concurrently
  • Facilitate the flow of work during a project to ensure that it conforms to the project plan covering forecasting, scoping, planning, scheduling, execution and closeout
  • Ensure that team members understand their authority and responsibility regarding their portion of the project
  • Assume project communication lead role throughout the life cycle of the project
  • Develop and lead presentations for the Consumers Energy leadership team
  • Assist in the development of performance metrics and track performance of the projects executed
  • Identify and recommend new processes, techniques and standards that drive performance and process management
  • Identify, prioritize and drive the implementation of process enhancements
  • Validate financial forecasts and provide on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures
  • Plan and execute the Project Lifecycle Process (PLP) which includes preparation of plans, schedule planning and other standardized project management deliverables, while meeting the agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives
  • Develop and manage overall project execution plans and metric tracking for the assigned projects
  • Develop project schedules with Project Scheduling group utilizing the schedule tool to include schedule concepts, constraints, integrate risks and risk mitigations, items in appropriate level of detail, track schedule process
  • Communicate and negotiate with stakeholders, both internal and external and outside agencies
  • Identify and manage risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution
  • Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies
  • Identify and recommend new processes, techniques and standards that drive performance and process improvement as well as problem solving on existing projects for process improvements
  • Prepare financial forecasts and provide on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures; while taking steps to ensure projects are completed within budget
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
