Position Summary

The ES&H Trainer helps develop and execute the training and awareness component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. Key activities involve development of training plans and courses, preparation of training materials, recordkeeping, teaching and coaching, and execution of awareness campaigns to enhance ES&H performance and leadership. The position involves practical application of teaching methods to promote knowledge and participation within a diverse workforce. The position reports to the Project Training Lead or Project ES&H Manager.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops and coordinates ES&H learning, multi-lingual training, and awareness activities to enhance understanding and implementation of the ES&H program.
  • Helps prepare and implement the project Training Plan, inclusive of ES&H orientation and other standard and specialized ES&H courses that relate to a project’s scope of work and Bechtel’s ES&H standards (core processes).
  • Works with subject matter experts within the ES&H team and other functions to develop or review multi-lingual course materials and awareness strategies.
  • Uses a composite of classroom and instructor-led courses, hands-on training (e.g., hazard school), posters, brochures, banners, bulletin boards, supervisor meetings, toolbox talks, handouts, and pre-task meetings to promote knowledge and awareness of all three ES&H disciplines.
  • Coordinates and supervises the project’s Craft-Based Leadership program and associated training and recordkeeping, per Bechtel core process, and distributes results within the project and follows up on craft recommendations.
  • Promotes and applies the ES&H Management System to achieve continual improvement. Uses cost-effective methods for printing, artwork preparation, and copying of computer design artwork and layouts.
  • May use third-party vendors to provide course materials and translation services, as required and approved.
  • Maintains and updates the project ES&H website, forms, and other methods of web-based technology.
  • Maintains a record of best practices as part of knowledge sharing within the project and company.
  • Helps establish and maintain an ES&H recognition program for employees.
  • Helps develop, promote, and implement EHS initiatives and awareness campaigns.
  • Updates training materials based on events, compliance requirements, and changed conditions.
  • Assists other ES&H team members in program execution across all three ES&H disciplines.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college related to ES&H disciplines with 2 to 4 years of relevant technical and teaching experience; or an Associates degree related to ES&H with 9 or more years of relevant technical and teaching experience.
  • Must be bi-lingual in Spanish and English 

Additional Qualifications

  • Training skills and knowledge applicable to ES&H disciplines.
  • Prior work experience involving development and implementation of training programs.
  • Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
  • Adaptable to work in a training facility and outdoors in a field environment.
  • Ability to support various work shifts, as needed.
  • Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences and workplace training.
  • Previous experience with ES&H technical and administrative subjects.
  • Broad technical knowledge, science skills and technical writing and teaching abilities.
  • Excellent multi-lingual (Spanish and English) oral and written communication skills and diverse training methods preferred.
