Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced hands-on Employee Relations Manager to join our team. The Employee Relations (ER) Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive employee relations strategies, policies, and programs to foster a positive and productive work environment for our construction craft professionals – across all key regions globally. This role will collaborate closely with project teams, Workforce Services Managers, Industrial Relations Managers, Labor Relations Managers, Project Craft Professionals, ER Managers, internal and external legal counsel, and senior leadership to ensure fair and consistent treatment of craft professionals promote a culture of trust and respect. The ER Manager will provide guidance, oversight, and training on ER investigations, conduct in person ER investigations and be responsible for providing reports for senior management review.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Construction and Workforce Services/LR/IR teams to promote equity, company values, and accountability in the workplace and to respond appropriately and fairly to team member concerns.
  • Infuse employee relations insights into organizational strategies.
  • Develop and implement employee relations framework including: strategies, policies, and programs aligned with the company’s values, goals, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on employee relations best practices, conflict resolution, and respectful workplace conduct.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

 

ER Cases/Investigations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, providing guidance, coaching, and support to Workforce Services/LR/IR and construction leadership in handling performance management, employee discipline, and separation processes.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and resolve a range of employee relations concerns, including workplace conflicts, grievances, harassment, discrimination and/or retaliation complaints, and other violations of work rules.
  • Manage the employee relations case management system to review and track case progress, conduct investigatory interviews while ensuring compliance with company policy as well as legal requirements, collect and analyze relevant evidence, write investigation summaries, and deliver debriefs with relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead all governance on employee issues and exits, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to non-discriminatory practices.
  • Stay updated on labor laws, regulations, and industry trends related to employee relations, making recommendations for policy and program enhancements.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel on employment-related matters, including agency investigations, and employment litigation matters to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and deliver training current best practice programs for investigation processes to upskill on-Project Workforce Services IR/LR teams.
  • Proactively identify and address potential employee relations issues and develop preventive measures.
  • Prepare and present reports and metrics on employee relations trends and outcomes to senior leadership.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or 10+ years’ experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in employee relations or a similar role, preferably in a construction organizational setting.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of US labor laws, regulations, and best practices related to employee relations.
  • Formal investigation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in investigating and resolving complex employee relations issues, including harassment, discrimination, and disciplinary matters.
  • Strong understanding of performance management, policy enforcement, and employment separation processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills to document and report on investigations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding equitable and practical solutions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver training programs on employee relations topics.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with legal counsel.
