BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group – Lynchburg is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer – PLC/Controls for its Lynchburg, VA location!

 

The NOG-L Facilities Engineering group is responsible for the entire NOG-L physical facility, inside and outside. This group distributes safe and reliable utility systems throughout the facility as required by all operations. This role must be able to work during annual plant shutdown, usually the week of July 4th, and support emergency needs as needed.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Develops PLC programs for complex control systems.
  • Develops and reviews design and functional specifications.

  • Develops controls system test plans.

  • Commissions complex motion-based controls systems.

  • Perform and documents control systems testing.

  • Troubleshoots software and hardware issues and implements solutions.

  • Analyzes plant processes for improvement and optimization.

  • Develops, maintains, and peer reviews design schematics for new and existing equipment.

  • Specifies and procures instrumentation and controls for new and existing equipment.

  • Ensures compliance with applicable internal processes and regulations.

  • Applies electrical theory and related knowledge to design and performs new installations and modifications to the facility power/controls distribution systems as required to support machinery and production at the NOG-L manufacturing facility.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology plus four (4) years of experience. Internal candidates with a Physics Degree who are already on the Engineering Ladder are also eligible.
  • Must possess moderate level of knowledge of PLC, HMI, and Controls Programming (Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).
  • Must possess knowledge of Motion-based programming (Rockwell/Allen Bradley).
  • Must possess a working knowledge of National Electric Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 70E and 79, and 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills in order to motivate others to succeed. 
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.
  • Ability to interpret internal or external business issues and recommend best practices or solutions.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently, only needing guidance in the most complex situations. 
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
