Director, Factory Operations – Lake City

Orbital ATK has an opening for a Director of Operations for the Small Caliber Systems Division in Independence, MO. Orbital ATK Small Caliber Systems is the operating contractor of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant and produces small caliber ammunition for defense and commercial applications. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Operations, the Director of Operations position is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of all production and support operations for one of two value steams in order to meet and exceed customer expectation and program requirements. This position functions as a member of the division Leadership Team, who together drive the culture, strategy and execution for the Small Caliber Systems division. Position includes performance accountabilities for plant safety, efficiency, product quality, equipment and facility maintenance, budget management, and production cost and schedule performance. Also drives continuous improvement methods (PES) and best practices to create dramatic results for Orbital ATK.

Requirements:

• Extensive knowledge of manufacturing operations and business systems. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years management experience in a manufacturing environment, with preference for experience managing in explosives, chemical or ammunition manufacturing.
• Ability to lead and influence appropriate change in business systems and organizations to meet current and future business goals and objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large and diverse groups, build effective teams and inspire commitment.
• Ability to operate and lead in team environment, and teach and mentor others to manage in same way.
• Ability to effectively work with a diverse community of stakeholders and to garner support for initiatives across functional lines.
• Demonstrated history of effective and continuous improvement-based operations management; continuous improvement/Six Sigma (PES) experience preferred.
• Ability to formulate and execute complex project plans and initiatives.
• A clearly demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction and open communication.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
• Must be able to effectively interface with other leadership and customer representatives.
• Experience and familiarity with labor relations and contract negotiations.
