Job Summary: Reporting to the Manager, Neighbourhood Services, the incumbent is responsible for the overall patron experience through supervision, organization, administration and security of a medium Branch. Responsible for leading and implementing the Library’s strategic goals and priorities in the Branch and the Community and providing leadership to staff in contributing to the success of the Library as a whole. Demonstrates and sets expectations for the conduct of staff that adhere to the library’s policies and procedures in accordance with the Library’s vision, mission and values.

 

Job Requirements:

 

Education/Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Completion of supervisory courses. 

Experience:

 

One year of supervisory experience as an Assistant Manager and/or Branch Head, or equivalent leadership experience that includes some element of supervision such as directing project staff. Demonstrated leadership experience. Considerable experience in the provision of library services including programming, information services, working with the community and collection management.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Ability to lead, coach and develop a staff team; excellent team-building and leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of current trends and industry best practices in areas of responsibility.
  • Thorough understanding of library services, collections, technologies and resources.
  • Strong commitment to serving clients; open, pragmatic and responsive to clients and community.
  • Innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment with the ability to assist staff to participate in and be open to change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to actively promote the service of the branch to the community and agencies and work with the community to identify and meet community needs and expectations.

Employment Type: Regular Full-Time
Salary: $43.82 to $51.78 per hour

Work Schedule: Tuesday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm; Saturday 8:40am – 5:10pm.

 

Earned Day Off on Week 2 Saturday
