The Regional Manager, Security (RMS) is a member of the Global Security Operations & Risk team within Corporate Security. This position leads a team of security professionals responsible for international aviation security operations for American Airlines in the region. The RMS area of responsibility is divided into areas, led by an Area Manager, Security (AMS). The RMS is responsible for ensuring security program requirements and contracts are implemented and met as required by AA and government regulatory requirements.  

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with regional and station operational leaders
  • Serve as point of escalation for operational security incidents
  • Provide support to internal and external stakeholders regarding security regulations
  • Ensure international security suppliers are held accountable to all security and contractual standards
  • Support internal investigations relating to customer misconduct, compliance concerns, and team member misconduct
  • Establish and maintain relationships with government agencies and law enforcement on the country level
  • Prepare post-incident debriefs and recommendations
  • Lead security and facilitation projects with host state governments and internal stakeholders
  • Analyze station security audit findings and develop security assessment and mitigation plans to address threats and vulnerabilities
  • Provide career guidance and growth opportunities for ASMs
  • Represent American Airlines Corporate Security at local government and industry bodies including intelligence briefings, industry meetings, and regulatory performance reviews

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Strong understanding of aviation security concepts from an airline, airport, regulator and/or law enforcement perspective
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
  • Strong understanding of aviation systems and processes
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a dispersed workforce
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Previous negotiation experience
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Decision maker
  • Strong communication skills; written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to review and ensure compliance with legal contracts for vendors
  • Demonstrate initiative and ownership of problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite including SharePoint
  • Must fulfill Host Country Government criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable
  • Ability and willingness for 50%+ short- and long-haul travel; including weekends and holidays as needed

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Knowledge of the country specific aviation security regulations and international standards (ICAO Annex 17)
  • Previous international airport and/or airline operations experience
  • Previous experience with an aviation security regulatory or aviation industry body
  • Previous experience in a law enforcement or regulatory capacity with an aviation focus
  • Previous experience in Sabre or Qik
  • Relevant foreign language skills
  • College degree or military/law enforcement service equivalent
