Position Summary

The mechanical/piping quality control and field engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of field inspections, site verifications, subcontract coordination, and other activities as directed by the discipline lead engineer.

 

Responsibilities

  • Issue site inspection requests
  • Conduct and record field inspections
  • Monitor site subcontractor progress, prepare and issue daily reports
  • Issue NCR/CAR reports for quality defects as appropriate
  • Review and clarify design issues by means of RFIs
  • Support management of construction documents in the field and with subcontractors
  • Coordinate activities between subcontractors and the client
  • Review subcontractor as-builts for accuracy
  • Support evaluation and analysis of site subcontractor performance
  • Perform design coordination activities with engineering and subcontractors and support design reviews

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university and 5+ years of related construction experience. In lieu of degree, individual is required to have 9 years of industry experience. 
  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous Bechtel experience at a commercial project.
  • Previous Bechtel experience in Construction Quality Control and/or Field Engineering.
  • Possess working knowledge of the Bechtel Work Processes Procedures and the related Bechtel Standard application programs (BSAPs).
  • Knowledge and experience of performing inspections in the mechanical and piping discipline on construction projects.
  • Candidates should be self-starters, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards.
  • Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME

 

 

Work requires physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
