The Role
The IT Systems Engineer II provides advanced Tier II support by troubleshooting and repairing network devices, tools, and services for a nationwide fiber optic transport network as well as network support for two (2) geographically separated Network Operation Centers (NOC). The IT System Engineer II is operationally responsible for all IP and network management applications associated with the IP and transport platforms and maintaining 100% availability of IP and Network Management services in engineering and operations environment.

The Main Responsibilities
- Perform Transport Network Management functions in engineering and operations environment; operates as a technical SME.
- Work Tier-2 trouble escalations for SONET, OTN, and DWDM troubles.
- Trouble shoot and coordinate Tier-2 Network Implementations projects; services as technical POC for service Provisioning, configurations, and Test and Turn-up processes. Interface with Lead Engineers with network requirements and designs.
- Work and coordinate Tier-2 Network deactivation and decommission of Transport SONET, OTN, DWDM transport devices.
- Write and maintain technical operational documentations and SOP for Transport discipline supporting the NOC.
- Develop and maintain Circuit Layout Records, Network Diagrams, and other supporting documentation. Review and provide feedback to network as-built, Engineering Development Plans, and configuration management drawings.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Basic Qualifications:
- On-call after hours/on-call support as required.
- Expected to work in a shift environment in support of 24×7 operations.
- Up to 10% travel can be expected.
- Must have technical skills and experience in the OTN/SONET/DWDM profession.
- Operate and accomplish technical tasks with minimum guidance.
- Requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Security+ or equivalent IAT/IAM/IASAE Level 2 of DOD 8570.1 is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an Information Technology field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a network management environment.
- Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the OTN/SONET/DWDM profession and is required.
- Expertise in the uses of network management protocols, tools and products such as One Control, MCP, DNA, Remedy.
- Fluent in the use of Microsoft Office tools to include Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Ciena OC-A certification is preferred.
- High level knowledge of DWDM, SONET, OTN, and TDM technology.
Compensation
The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee’s primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$88980 – $118630 in these states: CO.
As with the pay range variety that’s based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
