Job Output

 

Under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager, the Quality Lead is responsible for supporting the production teams to ensure all product specifications and quality metrics are met to align with customer satisfaction.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

General Duties

  • Commit to and follow the facility Mission, Vision and Values that support the AWI Operating Principles as an individual and team.
  • Attend and participate in all required company training programs.

 

Quality Duties

  • Operate all quality check equipment necessary for role
  • Perform hourly inspections on dimensions, visual checks, and other quality requirements as needed.
  • Support the development of standard work and training material with the operators/team leads on the equipment.
  • Develop a working knowledge of products (specifications, fit and function) in order to make quality decisions during production to prevent excessive defects and/or downtime.
  • Develop a knowledge of the basics of operation of each piece of equipment you are working with in order to communicate issues and support troubleshooting.
  • Keep accurate records of production, waste, quality checks undertaken as needed.
  • Communicate issues quickly and accurately to the operators, team lead, and plant resources to prevent excessive scrap and downtime.  
  • Troubleshoot issues that are within your knowledge and control. Decide quickly to contact more resources for issues outside of your knowledge and control.
  • Clean, inspect and verify gauges are in working order on a defined interval
  • Work with Manufacturing Technical Coordinator to develop a gauge auditing process
  • Collect, audit and maintain product standards/samples. Effectively use the standards set in place.
  • Assist with the qualification process (collecting material, taking measurements, recording data)
  • Ensure all containment (hold) events are documented and dispositioned in a timely manner

 

Environmental, Health, & Safety

  • Follow all Company, OSHA Safety, and EPA Environmental Policies.
  • Always ensures personal safe behavior and encourages safe behavior in others.
  • Participates in safety related events/trainings/processes.
  • Conform to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Report any safety/environmental incidents.

 

Cost

  • Looks for projects or methods to reduce cost without sacrificing the quality of the parts.
  • Drives waste out of operation

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None                       

 

Travel:  Minimal; less than 5%

 

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills including Excel, & web-based applications to enter data regularly and accurately.
  • Prior manufacturing, assembly, material movement, or powder coating operations experience preferred.
  • Understand your internal customer base. Be customer oriented; possess the ability to react to the customers’ needs while following company procedures.
  • Direct knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Johnstown plant products and processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing materials, fabrication processes, and machinery preferred.
  • Must be flexible and be able to respond with a positive attitude to changing demands and conditions. 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with many areas of the plant/company during meetings, presentations, and various conversations on and off the floor.
  • Attention to detail and understand/adjusting to minor detail changes.
  • Ability to learn how to operate a forklift and other company vehicles.

Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions.  Basic PPE required: safety glasses, earplugs, and steel toe/composite boots. Specific PPE & training will be provided for activities requiring additional accommodation.

 

Education and/or Experience
