Project Overview:

Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. 

 Woodside Energy is Australia’s leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be working with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source.

 

Job Summary:

The CSU Piping and Mechanical Lead will be responsible for supervising and directing operations within the Piping and Mechanical function.

The CSU Piping and Mechanical Lead is responsible for ensuring scope of the associated Commissioning and startup work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with the project safety standards, the project quality standards and the design/specifications as well as performing general functions inherent in all supervisory home office and field positions.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Complies with Bechtel’s and Client ES&H and Quality initiatives, always aiming for Zero Accidents and Zero Significant Quality Incidents.
  • Resolving Piping and Mechanical System’s issues, within and across systems. This includes locating and diagnosing trouble in mechanical equipment, components, and systems, developing technical solutions, preparing change documentation.
  • Providing technical guidance including interpreting new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data and interpreting designs, drawings, and O & M manuals.
  • Reviewing engineering and vendor documents for Commissioning and startup requirements, notifying project personnel of problem areas, and providing help developing recommended solutions.
  • Coordinating assigned Commissioning and startup activities between project engineering, construction, specialty staff groups, clients, and vendors, as applicable. This includes Identifying and helping to resolve issues resulting from conflicting requirements and unsuitability.
  • Development of documentation for system testing and turnover including scoping of drawings and Teamworks, participating in development of the project startup manual, preparing system pre-commissioning and commissioning testing procedures and integrated system/unit test procedures and other similar required documents
  • Other responsibilities as designated. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A recognized degree in a Mechanical engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college and/or extensive progressive work experience in the specialty.
  • In-depth experience related to commissioning and startup of industrial, process or utility facilities or other relevant experience such as construction, engineering, field engineering or operations in industrial, process and utility facilities including progressively increasing levels of responsibility in supervisory and technical roles. In-depth gas plant experience in commissioning preferred ( i.e Commissioning and startup of Aero-Derivative Gas Turbines, Gas Turbine Generator, Air compressors, Nitrogen Generation package, Regen Compressor, Turbo Expander).

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel proficiently. Ability to use BSAP’s and Aconex proficiently. Working knowledge of Teamworks, Set route and Completion module.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to gas plants.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

 

Additional Information: 

This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).

The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco – are permitted to be brought to the site. 

This position is available to both local and non-local personnel. For non-locals (FIFO/DIDO), the working roster is 3/1.
