The Business Analyst I is primarily responsible for defining and performing analysis, documentation, planning, and deployment of systems software and procedures which require basic technical and systems knowledge; has awareness of Project Management Methodology and is able to apply basic software testing principals for simple projects; provides day-to-day support for application systems.


  1. Analytical Skills: Writes basic business requirements, documenting customer needs and expectations for simple projects. This would include, but not be limited to, data access and retention specs, report definition, data security requirements, etc. Writes functional requirements including data access and retention specs, and report definition for simple projects. Provides basic business process modeling. Provides project estimates for simple projects and enhancements. Reads and restarts simple job scheduling needs.

  2. Application Support Skills: Applies business application patches and releases. Diagnoses and remediates problems. Assists with root cause analysis. Assists with execution of Disaster Recovery processes. Assists with authoring and maintaining application documentation. Installs desktop clients.

  3. Technical Skills: Creates simple reports from database repositories. Performs simple queries. Performs simple production deployments.

  4. Project Management Skills: Works within projects using bank’s existing methodology, artifacts, funding, etc. Performs testing on simple projects and enhancements.


  • Understanding of single application data flows across multiple applications
  • Basic security knowledge
  • Awareness of application disaster recovery
  • Awareness of software integration, system integration, and technologies used
  • Understanding of RDBMS principles and tools
  • Knowledge of basic infrastructure and information security principles
  • Awareness of tiered environments (e.g. development, testing, UAT, production, DR)
  • Awareness of technology standards and governance concepts
  • Awareness of Project Management Methodology (basic framework, phases, artifacts, process, and project funding)
  • Awareness of Quality/ Testing Methodologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science or 1+ years related experience or 3+ years in bank operations.
