Job Description

The Assistant Division Controller is primarily responsible for assisting the Division Controller in the financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and performance measurement functions for assigned divisions of the bank; provides financial and management information support to the division controller and division managers for decision and performance measurement purposes.  A key secondary responsibility is to assist the Division Controller in preparing annual financial statements and periodic regulatory financial reporting.

How You’ll Spend Your Time

  • You will provide critical insight and measure performance for divisions and departments to executive management and line of business personnel.
  • You will develop reports, identify trends and analyze variances, ensuring timely and accurate information flow to management.
  • You will prepare and create annual division/department/cost center budgets and forecast the performance of each line of business and any periodic forecasts as requested utilizing sophisticated financial models.  
  • You will ensure the timeliness and accuracy of month end entries, accruals and general ledger reconciliations; prepares financial analyses and generates reports which measure actual results against budget to assist finance and executive management in making financial decisions.
  • You will support various division cost center managers to improve understanding of financial performance as it relates to the identification of revenue enhancement and/or cost reduction opportunities as well as projections of profitability impact of proposed management actions.
  • You will coordinate and/or participate in special projects as required by finance and executive management.
  • You will coordinate with Financial Accounting to document and understand the accounting process for each department within the division.
  • You will assist in preparation of the annual financial statements and period regulatory financial reporting.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting and 5-7 years work related experience in or related to a financial institution or 11-13 related work experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting (both financial & managerial) and finance principles and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of financial and management accounting and reporting methodologies employed in financial institutions, including management application of business information in decision making processes
  • Advanced knowledge of profitability analysis concepts and application, including those related to internal transfer pricing and cost accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of bank application systems (loans, deposit, etc.) including customer level information
  • Thorough knowledge of banking and bank operations
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and reporting systems including financial databases
  • Excellent knowledge of PC-based applications (databases, spreadsheets, word processors, utilities, operating systems)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
