SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to attract individuals who are interested in a career in Supplier Diversity as a part of Supply Chain/Procurement and in developing business skills required to be effective in a corporate environment. Candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply computer, analytical and communication skills in a fast paced business environment that affects many departments and facets of the business while learning about SDO’s importance to Amtrak and its procurement needs as well as the history as a whole of a supplier diversity department and its work in advocacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist and support supplier diversity initiatives/processes within procurement.
  • Assist with processing, tracking, updating, and reporting of data from day to day activities as well as process improvements
  • Assist with research of targeted vendors for procurement needs
  • Assist with communications between SDO and internal and external customers
  • Assist with supporting various special projects as warranted
  • Assist with testing of written training guides/materials for SDO process and operations
  • Assist with preparation and participation for outreach events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in in Business Administration, Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Sociology.  Will consider any undergraduate within reasonfor a candidate that expresses an interest in the area of Supplier Diversity.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum. 
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Some experience in MS Office software suite with strong aptitude in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Ability to research, collect and analyze data.
  • Ability to identify challenges/barriers and make recommendations to get to a satisfactory outcome.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills sufficient to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Experience to advance knowledge in MS Office software suite with strong aptitude in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Specific interest in working in the railroad industry and/or in a career in Supplier Diversity.
