General Purpose of Job

As a Sr. Underwriter, you will analyze and deliver on more complex Underwriting assignments/projects for Lincoln Financial's Life Underwriting & New Business area. You are responsible for underwriting life insurance applications within his/her designated approval limit of up to $5,000,000 and up to age 85. S/he evaluates assesses more complex risks to determine whether to accept an insurance application and determines the appropriate coverage/risk.

Duties and Responsibilities

Champions and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Collaborates effectively with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks.
Communicates effectively with customers to facilitate placement of business.
Consults/Analyze on more complex assignments and/or projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual’s medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background.
Enhances departmental outcomes by sharing knowledge with team members and providing advice on more complex underwriting determinations.
Evaluates and underwrites life insurance applications making determinations of the terms, coverage, and rating classification within his/her designated approval limit $2,000,000 to $5,000,000 and between ages 70 to 85.
Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
Provides second signature review of life insurance applications
Provides training to less experienced team members on underwriting procedures and guidelines.
Represents the company by responding to questions during agency visits and developing relationships with agents and partners.
Serves as a resource to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Works on assigned projects

Education

4 Year/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor’s) – Minimum Required

Experience

3 – 5+ Years of individual life underwriting experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of this position. (Required )
