The Implementation & Support group is responsible for adapting and geographically expanding innovative products across our premium wellness and therapeutic product portfolios. The senior thermal process scientist has expert knowledge of thermal processing requirements for low-acid foods packaged in hermetically sealed containers under 21 CFR 113.83. They will require working closely with formulation scientists, quality, regulatory, supply chain, procurement, packaging, external thermal process consultants and internal manufacturing colleagues to ensure finished products achieve adequate thermal process treatment for shelf-stability.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, evaluation and implementation of thermal processes; knowledge and understanding of the appropriate design and methods of conducting studies relating to thermal processing of food, such as: heat penetration, temperature and heat transfer distribution studies, thermal-death-time experiments, process validation and verification studies, and applying other scientific methods related to aseptic and/or thermal processing
  • Knowledge of the underlying principles, process calculations, analysis tools, and evaluation techniques related to thermal processing; ability to document process establishment methods and results, and communicate thermal process requirements and recommendations.
  • Partner with manufacturer colleagues and manufacturing technology to optimize product and thermal processes
  • Experience and ability to identify and evaluate process deviations and spoilage incidents;
  • Budgets and tracks project costs along with potential supervisory responsibilities
  • Ongoing quality, safety, and related training

Education/ Experience Requirements

  • 5+ Years of Thermal Process Authority Experience 
  • BS in Food Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Food Engineering or related field
  • Completed Better Process Control School complying with 21 CFR 128b

 

Other required experience or qualifications:

  • Understanding of formula development process and basic food science principles
  • Possesses basic understanding in regulatory, product safety and quality requirements relevant to functional responsibilities
  • Ability to design and run scientific experiments
  • Ability to plan and implement projects 
  • Communicate and lead in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • MS in Food Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Food Engineering or related field

 

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $110,000.00 – $125,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:
