About the Role 

The role will be responsible for the plans, schedules, and routes of inbound and outbound domestic and international shipments of freight. You will be using knowledge of postal regulations, tariffs, and company policy. You will coordinate with carriers, audit freight bills, prepare and negotiate claims, and select or recommend carriers to ensure efficient, timely, and least expensive movements of goods and material.   


Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Maintains compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt and documentation of imported/exported products, Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials, and other regulated commodities. 

  • Conducts research on transportation methods, rates, and routes.  Develops programs to audit and monitor carrier rates and charges and evaluates past performance and cost of shipping routes. 

  • Monitors the carriers’ on-time performance and quality of shipments by reviewing and validating the carrier performance reports.  Works with the carriers to improve performance when the agreed upon timeliness and/or quality drops below established service goals. 

  • Conducts analysis of alternate methods of transportation and programs, along with projected cost and service improvements. 

  • Provides traffic advice and assistance and consults with Boston Scientific locations to ensure efficiency of time and costs (i.e., recommending and selecting carriers, exporting, and importing). 

  • Audits freight vendor by conducting periodic reviews of vendors’ service in order to ensure quality service and to resolve any problems (e.g., hub visit, delivery, packaging). 

  • Collects data through needs surveys and carriers’ service history and analyzes it to identify efficiencies and inefficiencies to develop cost-reduction plans. 

  • Collects shipping data from the computer systems and log sheets in order to compile the monthly Freight Cost Analysis report for management’s review. 

  • Provides training and direction as needed to the Traffic Assistant(s) in the preparation of domestic and exports and imports, freight claims, freight bill payment and audit process and carrier pick up. 

  • Monitors existing trade lanes and evaluates trade lane developments between sites. 


What We are Looking For:  

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field  

  • Minimum of 5 plus years of relevant work experience  

  • Import and export experience with foreign trade 

  • Strong communication and collaboration experience  

  • Experience in SAP or a related ERP system, carrier software platforms 

  • Strong knowledge of Dangerous Goods shipping regulations (49CFR, IATA)  


Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel 

  • Formal training in Harmonized Tariff Classifications, Import/Export Regulations
