Job Summary

The Sr Systems Engineer- Cloud Operations is responsible for building enterprise grade hybrid cloud infrastructure environments. They are charged with configuring, maintaining and supporting a complex server environment which includes Windows and Linux platforms in both a physical data center and IaaS in the cloud. 

The Sr System Engineer works as a member of the Infrastructure Services team and is charged to understand the goals/objectives of that team and how it supports those of the I&O division.


Typically, 5+ years of experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or combination of education and experience.

AWS certification highly preferred

Essential Job Functions

Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Linux/Unix AND/OR Windows Based Systems.
Ensure operational stability of server and storage environment. 
Actively Monitors the health of services. Builds automated monitoring/alerting to help ensure uptime of 99.8% for the systems.
Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures
Provide tier 2 and 3 level support with the defined SLA/RLA with over 90% compliance. 
Helps automate server builds using scripting languages or any new technology identified in environment based on technology and architectural roadmap. 
Provides cost effective, secure and fit-for-purpose solutions to internal customers as per the business needs.
Builds and maintains secure hardened servers as per the security standards with less than 5% rework (not requirement changes) during build & deploy phase. 
Helps automate patch process for servers on monthly/regular basis using automated tools like Altiris, SSM or Satellite.  Critical security patches to be applied with 10 hours of communication received from security team. 
Assist the Team lead or Manager in integration or divestiture initiatives and provide timely feedback/inputs and help integrate IT assets. 
Assist the Team lead or Manager in providing inputs for EOL assets and/or renewals and related activities.
Configure and maintain organizational backup and restore environments. Assists the customers in performing backup and recovery of systems as and when required
Perform backup system and storage upgrades in alignment with established processes and standards.
Configure and manage the backup platforms to ensure hourly, daily, nightly, and monthly backups of on-prem systems to AWS.
Ability to Test backup and recoveries on monthly, quarterly basis as per DR and audit related exercises
Configure and manage CPM platform to ensure backups of AWS based systems as per defined frequencies (daily, weekly, monthly)
Document and cross train other Systems Engineers in backup system configurations and processes. (If necessary, to be explicit above/beyond the documentation requirements below)
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly server and storage platform performance tuning in alignment with defined processes and standards
Help DBA team to configure MySQL/SQL Server wherever needed 

Linux/Unix/Cloud Skills

Fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts (Routing protocols, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP)

Windows Server 2008R2 and greater
Active Directory (ADSS, ADUC, DC Promo, GPO, RDS)

Demonstrate ability and willingness to mentor Associates to help develop consultancy and customer service skills.
Recommend potential product, service and process opportunities by collecting customer requirements and analyzing business needs.

Provide guidance/coaching to Associates to help them enhance the efficiency/effectiveness of their work plans.

Participate with management and technical teams to establish appropriate project timelines to deliver sustainable solutions within approved time and budget parameters.
Demonstrate accountability for physical and logical security/integrity in planning for all projects.
