As a Senior SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the daily operation of our database deployments around the world. The role is influential in bringing forward great ideas and advancing Alvaria’s Database Platforms. You will install, configure, and maintain several different types of database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra or MongoDB. There is also a heavy focus on automation and tools such as Ansible and Rundeck.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Install, deploy, and maintain Alvaria’s database infrastructure
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database system alarms and alerts
• Create and maintain documentation and improve team processes.
• Investigate ways to automate repetitive processes.
• Respond to escalations within Alvaria Cloud Operations
• Mentor team members on database best practices and help advance their technical ability
• Analyze metrics for capacity planning and potential performance issues.
• Assist in development and product engineering as it relates to our database deployments
At least 7+ years of experience and expert level knowledge in any one of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cassandra or MongoDB.
2+ years of experience with at least 1 other DB type (Postgres, Cassandra, MongoDB or MySQL)
3+ years of experience with Windows or Linux administration.
Familiarity with networking and storage concepts and how they integrate with databases.
Experience with Ansible, Rundeck or other automation tool is highly advantageous.
Ability to quickly learn new technologies
Experience with Database High Availability Technologies
Scripting experience such as PowerShell, Python, YAML or any other.
Candidates are expected to exhibit good judgment in all cases and be comfortable making decisions.
Able to act as a mentor to other team members
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work extra hours if needed
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or similar experience
3+ years of experience with Windows AND Linux administration
5+ years of experience with 1 of these databases Postgres, Cassandra, MongoDB or MySQL.
Exposure to Kubernetes
