Company Name: Micron

Location: Manassas, VA, US - 20108

Job Duration: 2021-04-08 to 2021-05-08

Req. ID: 284541

As a Semiconductor Process Safety Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will work to minimize the chemical safety risk from the many hazardous materials common to semiconductor manufacturing.  To do this, you will expertly apply to process safety elements, as described by the Center for Chemical Process Safety, an organization within the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. You will be expected to find exposures and assist in developing and implementing sound engineering solutions.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Examining semiconductor process tools and facility support systems against their designs to identify chemical safety hazards to workers;
  • Coordinating world-wide with Micron personnel to assess the risks associated with those hazards;
  • Developing cost-effective safeguards to remove or mitigate those risks;
  • Applying and routinely leading risk analysis, trouble shooting, and event analysis activities using accepted engineering tools including KT analysis, HAZOP and Quantitative HAZOP, 8D event analysis, LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) Bayesian modeling, and Cost-Benefit Analysis;
  • Applying risk assessments in support of event analysis, including containment decisions, root cause analysis and development of permanent corrective actions;
  • Working with contractors, service personnel and other engineers and managers in a high-stress, manufacturing environment where tools, processes, chemistries, their hazards, along with task priorities frequently change;
  • Maintaining respirator certification and being able to work for short periods of time while wearing chemical and/or fire-retardant protective equipment;
  • Using established methods to predict chemical reactions involving reactions involving semiconductor manufacturing chemicals;
  • Applying these results to estimate byproducts and energy releases, temperature and pressure rises, human injury, and damage to equipment that these reactions may cause, and assessing the risk associated with such chemical hazards;
  • Determining and overseeing application of safe methods for sampling unknown process byproducts;
  • Coordinating with analysis laboratories to test those byproducts, then assessing the hazard they can represent to workers and the facility;
  • Helping managers and engineers to remove the hazards or to implement methods, equipment, and controls to reduce the risk from them to acceptable levels; and
  • Helping develop training intended to strengthen and sustain a ‘Process Safety Culture’ for all levels of Fab 6 workers.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or experience performing Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
  • Knowledge or experience performing Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies.
  • Knowledge or experience performing process safety event analyses.
  • Knowledge or experience of maintaining respirator certification.
  • Knowledge or experience with the Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS) elements.
  • Knowledge or experience performing quantitative risk assessment.
  • Knowledge or experience with management of change methodologies or procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience identifying and prioritizing chemical hazards.
  • Knowledge or experience developing PSM metrics.
  • Knowledge or experience assessing chemical incompatibilities.
  • Knowledge or experience regarding chemical reaction mechanisms.
  • Knowledge or experience performing source modeling, dispersion modeling and/or flammability calculations.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.

All job offers will be contingent upon a successful drug screening and background check.
