The A.O. Smith Corporation, a world leader in designing and manufacturing water heating and water treating equipment and an equal opportunity employer headquartered in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a student for a co-op position at its Corporate Technology Center in Milwaukee, WI.   The mission of the Corporate Technology Center is to conduct research and development to help bring new products and processes to market and to improve A.O. Smith’s existing products and processes.

Primary Function

This position is a full-time co-op position beginning in Fall 2021, designed to fit with the alternating school & work semester schedules established by many engineering colleges.

 

The position will provide a hands-on industrial experience and complement the student’s learning and academic experience and is structured to help broadly prepare the student for an engineering career.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the development and testing of new products and processes.
  2. Setup and conduct laboratory and field testing of new product ideas and improvements to existing products.
  3. Design and model products, product components, and test fixtures.  (If necessary, formal training in needed software package(s) will be provided.)
  4. Provide technical assistance to divisions when requested.
  5. Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
     

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a BS Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited university.
  • A minimum of a sophomore standing and able to co-op for at least 3 terms.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in major related coursework.
  • Conscientious & dependable, with the ability to work on small teams as well as independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and MS Office Products (Word, Excel, etc).
  • A sincere interest in a mechanical engineering career.
  • Interest in either thermal sciences (thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics) or renewables (solar, heat pumps) is a plus.
