Position Summary:

Operates machinery and equipment responsible for sending the correct diameter and length of logs to either the C-N-S or Headrig

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operators assigned machinery 
  • Performs or assists with preventative maintenance on machinery including oiling/greasing chains and sprockets, replacing saws, inspecting equipment for defects, performing minor repairs as needed
  • Processes re-run material from improperly stacked or sorted lumber pieces as need
  • Identify and remove crossups and jams by hand or using picaroons, chains and chainsaws to minimize equipment damage and maximize running capacity
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Safety Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Know and understand all safety rules, safety absolutes and procedures established by the facility and/or department
  • Carry out each task using every reasonable precaution: Promote Safe work, refuse to perform unsafe work, and stop others from performing unsafe work
  • Attend all required crew meetings and safety training
  • Use safe equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) designated for all tasks to perform and inspect for damage before each use
  • Show up to work fully capable to perform the job safely and effectively and inform your supervisor of any off-the-job injuries or health problems that may affect your ability to perform your job prior to the start of your shift
  • Report all injuries to your supervisor as soon as practicable
  • Report all unsafe conditions or acts immediately to your supervisor
  • Undertake only those jobs/tasks you are authorized (trained) to perform
  • Refer to JSA’s and Zero Energy Lockout procedures documentation for all jobs/tasks you are trained and authorized to perform

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is required to sit and/or stand for the complete shift (8-12 hrs) without assistance
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to safely navigate up and down grated stairways and catwalks and regularly required to walk, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Frequent exposure varying weather conditions, dust, vibration and high noise levels

 

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in an industrial environment
  • Machine operator and maintenance experience considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the wood manufacturing industry or Lumber Grading ticket considered an asset 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
