SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Lead Technical Trainer position will provide operational support by instructing, and evaluating Engineers, Student Engineers, Conductors, Dispatchers, and Engineering employee on simulator scenarios. They will set up and run scenarios along with helping to provide revision to shapefiles and building new routes.  They will help the simulator manager with maintenance, and upkeep on all the simulators system wide.  They must be well versed with the Simulator Strategy, Company Policies, CFR 240/242/243, Operating Rules, AMT-3.  The Lead Technical Trainer will also help to review and update training material when rules or policies changes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Facilitate simulator training for Engineers, Student Engineers, Conductors, Dispatchers, and Engineering employee’s
• Assist with development of standardized scenarios (Trouble Shooting, ACESE/I-ETMS/ITCS/
• X-ITCS, Train Handling, etc.) that can be used on all simulators systemwide
• Assist with validating new simulators 
• Assist with developing/reviewing (CGI) computer generated imaging  
• Assist with routine maintenance, and programming of simulators
• Participate on the Technical Advisory Team for future RFI/RFP for the purchases of new simulators
• Participate with Factory Acceptance, & Site Acceptance Testing on new simulators purchased by Amtrak 
• Work alongside contractor on simulator projects
• Working with the Road Foreman Training Coordinators around the Amtrak system to deliver affective standardized simulator training

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business or related field required (or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
• Demonstrated knowledge of Amtrak’s Airbrake and Train Handling Instruction, Operating Rules, Safety Rules and CFR Part 240/242/243 regulations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the operating rules training and the SPARTN program
• Currently a qualified Road Foreman, or locomotive Engineer  
• Demonstrated drive, ambition, and leadership ability.
• Ability to travel 20-50% of the time.
• Minimum of 6 years relevant experience required in lieu of a degree.
• Superior effectiveness in communication skills, including writing, speaking and presentation/platform skills.
• Effective organizational, administrative, and personal computing skills as demonstrated through past experience.
• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Simulator experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, transportation, or related field.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Management experience over Train & Engine service employees, Road Foreman experience preferred.
• 6 or more years as a Locomotive Engineer.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
