Intern Opportunity:  Industry forecasting and automation of market dashboards for AGCO Grain & Protein

Location: Based at the AGCO’s Accelerations Center in University of Illinois

Reporting to the Department: Global Strategic Marketing

Line Manager: Senior Manager Global Strategic Marketing & Market Intelligence


Job Summary & Responsibility:

This intern position focuses on further developing a Market Intelligence Platform for AGCO’s Grain & Protein division. The objective of the platform is to provide market intelligence, industrial forecast, and quality insights to the business from market analytics.

The foundations of the platform have been established by compiling relevant data from various public & paid sources and visualizing indicators in Tableau dashboards. Further development will focus on two directions:

  1. Automation and (global & regional) refinement of market dashboards: The objective is to automate the update of market indicators – both, using APIs from vendors as well as publicly available data. Further, Tableau dashboards may be refined, and additional regional detail pursued based on business needs.
  2. Predictive modeling of industry demand and sales: Utilizing historical data from the market model, the goal is to forecast industry demand and sales on product level in regions. To improve predictions, it will be necessary to develop an understanding for the data, exploit information from historical trends and identify key influencing factors, for example (but not limited to):
    • Grain:
      • Order intake Grain
      • Key Grain Commodity price developments
      • Ethanol demand
      • Animal feed demand
      • Subsidy programs
      • Farm income
      • Exports
      • Steel prices, Energy commodities, etc.
      • Weather
      • Etc.


    • Protein (separated for Pork, Poultry and Egg)
      • Order intake Protein
      • Processing capacity
      • Meat prices
      • Meat demand & supply trends
      • Global meat logistics
      • Animal feed prices
      • Meat commodity prices
      • Government support / interventions (sanctions, etc.)
      • Etc.


The intern will be responsible for the model and work closely with the team, external service providers and business to drive the development.



  • Data Science/Engineering, Econometrics or Business/Marketing with strong focus on analytics
  • Strong statistical toolset and experience in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS)
  • Experience with Tableau and APIs to create dashboards and automate workflow
  • Optional: Some experience preferably in agriculture
  • Business level skills in English (company language); other languages are an advantage
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Structured and process oriented
  • Creative thinker who is confident to suggest initiatives and challenge the status quo
