The Group Leader will be leading the Process Development Team in the Performance Films Technology Organization at Eastman Chemical Company located in Martinsville, VA. The Group Leader will be supporting automotive and architectural markets for solar control films and paint protection films. The position will be responsible for leading the scale-up of new products, process development enhancements and scouting new process innovation for coatings, adhesives, etc for a roll-to-roll process. 

The Group Leader will also be responsible for coaching and retaining qualified staff that contribute to organization and company goals. He or she ensures the highest quality performance through feedback, training, and development of their personnel.  The Group Leader is also responsible for the alignment of the strategic direction of the group that supports the Performance Films business strategy. The Group Leader shall champion and drive key initiatives, critical thinking, quality, and productivity primarily within the group and secondarily within the division.

  • Active in driving the safety and wellness culture including the Eastman Zero Incident Mindset, training, and general awareness.  Lead by example through active participation in department Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs
  • Understand the technology, business and asset strategies, and create and implement a vision for the group to execute.  This includes support for new products, crisis resolution, and process and productivity improvements.
  • Coach and develop direct reports by ensuring each direct report understands their alignment with manufacturing, the business, and their impact on short- and long-term financial success. 
  • Know direct reports’ strengths, development needs, and career interests.
  • Lead the establishment of effective cross-functional relationships within and across business, manufacturing, and technology teams
  • Develop, maintain, evaluate, and prioritize an active portfolio of growth and cost improvement projects for supported processes and drive execution with their team based on resources, capital funding, and business demand. 
  • Prioritize work and projects for team members in accordance with company needs, and monitor progress 
  • Attract, engage, develop, and retain the talent needed to provide people capable of implementing current and future programs


Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in a technical field, preferably Chemical Engineering.
  • Prefer 3 or more years’ experience in a manufacturing or manufacturing-oriented organization 
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and a desire to lead and develop people. Can be a first-time leadership position.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate the right level of detail to the right audience, at the right time
  • Self-starter, driven by the discovery, investigation, and implementation of process improvement and meeting customer needs
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, make assignments, and ensure execution in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to influence without authority and build strong networks across Technology, Manufacturing, and Business Organizations
