The Role at a Glance

This is an exciting time to join our organization as a Director of Data Platform Strategy as we lead a data transformation to help improve our products for our customers. This key role sits at the intersection of business and technology and an ideal candidate is passionate about solving business problems using technology.
This position acts as the business owner for our strategic data platform and will provide strategy, technical leadership, direction, and functional expertise in modernizing our data & analytics capabilities. They will lead a team of data experts that collaborate with various functional data & analytics leaders and our IT partners to understand and deliver on various data priorities. 


The Business

Information Management which is part of Information Strategy & Business Analytics, is leading a data transformation to modernize our data platform that supports the varied information needs of Group Protection to drive business value and profitability, and enable & increase adoption by implementing modern, business-centric (big) data & analytics technologies to embed data-driven decision-making into our business processes.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with IT & other key stakeholders to evaluate current state of data and develop tactical & strategic plans to improve data management and resolve technical challenges impeding data availability, quality and credibility on our data platform
  • Perform evaluation of different tools & database technologies and makes recommendations to IT and business partners
  • Work with Business stakeholders to understand data and infrastructure needs to then build and deliver tools and data assets
  • Work closely with the various analytics teams to enable strategies & programs that leverage metrics & predictive analytics to support business objectives like profitability & persistency
  • Guide the development of applications, systems, technical and product standards based on long range plans and vision.  In coordination with our IT partners, research and make recommendations relative to new technologies.
  • Develop and implement strategic process improvements to enable simplified, effective, standardized data & analytical processes
  • Lead a team of data Product Owners in a Scaled Agile Framework
  • Ensure our user-facing data tools and technologies are supported internally and kept current to meet our customers' data needs


What we’re looking for

Must-have experience (Required):

  • 5+ years of direct managerial/supervisory experience leading data experts in a Scaled Agile Framework
  • Experience using technology as an enabler to solve complex business challenges
  • Technology experience in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
  • Strong knowledge of databases and related concepts and working knowledge in overseeing the delivery and build of large scale databases and enterprise data assets
  • Strong technical knowledge and working exposure to a wide array of technology and data stacks in both traditional and big data space e.g. AWS, Oracle, Greenplum, Netezza, Hadoop etc
  • Experience evaluating, designing and end-to-end setting up of BI and Analytics tools/platforms on an enterprise scale 
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience on analytic tools (SAS/Alteryx/Dataiku etc) and visualization/BI tools (Tableau/Qlik, etc) with a deep understanding of the use cases associated with the insurance industry
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) in Information Technology, Engineering, Marketing, Economics or Mathematical discipline  (Minimum Required)

Nice-to have Experience (Preferred):  

  • Experience in Insurance or financial services #LI-AE1
