Software development, data, automation and advanced analytics capabilities are drastically transforming research and manufacturing beyond labs and point process automation to modeled, systemic, highly contextualized and data driven systems.   Corning is building and adopting the foundational digital capability for these company-wide efforts, and are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and talented digital lead that will lead several teams in the advanced analytics and application development space to produce tangible outcomes as products for the enterprise.

 

This role may have the opportunity to work remote.

 

Overview

The Digital Technology leader, Value Acceleration is a key member of our Emerging Technologies team, working closely with the product owner, developers, data scientists, analysts and domain experts to deploy custom software applications built with our digital application platforms.  Your work is crucial to our global digital transformation efforts because it helps deliver actionable insight, leverage agile methodologies to create value more effectively.   The successful candidate will be responsible to participate in various proof of value (POV) implementations leveraging agile practices and the value delivery teams, leveraging advanced analytics, toolchain and application development platforms to incorporate enterprise data and workflow information, interact with other enterprise systems and present this information to users that need it.

 

Responsibilities

As a IT technical leader, Value Acceleration, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Participate a series of POV for the design & development, testing, and deployment of custom applications using a variety of application frameworks and systems; may lead workstream within POV
  • Work directly with the product owner to support business requirements
  • Collaborate with technical app development teams working on these custom applications and platform integrations
  • Participate in architecture and software development activities
  • Translate loosely defined requirements into solutions
  • Use our agile toolchain service offering for your day-to-day activities and work to continually improve it

 

Education, Experience, and Licensing:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study
  • A minimum of 7 years working as a development team leader with a team of at least 3 developers
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on production experience with agile software development in a variety of languages, such as Python, .NET/C#, Go, Java, JavaScript/Node.JS
  • A minimum of 5 years working with data and architecture of data systems
  • Certification in major cloud infrastructure provider and/or CNCF related technologies a plus

 

 

Technical Qualifications:

A minimum of 7 years hands-on staging and production experience in each of the following areas:

  • Application software design patterns and software architecture
  • Data architecture design patterns
  • Front-end development with a variety of web frameworks using both reactive and responsive design techniques as appropriate
  • Understanding of agile software development tools including Git (preferably Gitlab), Jira, CI/CD and technical documentation tools
  • Understanding of agile work practices in settings involving multiple development teams, cross-functional team members and both local and remote participants with diverse backgrounds and experience

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a passion for working as a champion on behalf of a business to deliver a POV and products that provide tangible value to the business
  • Demonstrated ability to present products, train and champion digital to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated curiosity and an ability to learn new skills on an ongoing, sustained basis
  • Demonstrated systems perspective when analyzing problems, thinking about overall operation, failure modes and how to address these problems proactively
  • A strong sense for the importance of documentation, and the importance of not having to learn things twice
  • Ability lead an agile product team environment and balance a diverse set of stakeholder requests
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to break down technical systems to help business partners understand the value
  • Strong technical collaboration and communication skills as well as the ability to drive cultural change and adoption of best practices through community participation
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams across the company, defining technology roadmaps, sharing experiences and lessons learned for continual improvement
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Process-oriented with great documentation skills
