Bechtel is seeking a Civil/Structural Lead Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The Position will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and reviewing complex design work within discipline workgroup on large, complex projects or assignments in support of a global business unit. Coordinates and interfaces with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters.
The Civil/Structural Lead Engineer is principally responsible for:
Manages technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators) to facilitate appropriate technical decisions.
Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
Coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval on phases of work.
Reviews significant bid summaries, major drawings and staffing estimates and schedules.
Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations, including field and design documents relating to the discipline.
Coordinates assigned design work with other project groups.
Mentors designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
Openly communicates with conviction and confidence in all technical and business matters throughout the company.
Promotes the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Qualifications and Skills
The Civil/Structural Lead Engineer shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:
A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, from an accredited college or university, OR a professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board, OR specialized courses in relevant general design or an appropriate engineering discipline, AND broad progressive work experience in design or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.
Knowledge of systems, equipment, applications of design methods, materials, and computers for preparation of complex analyses and development of complex project design deliverables within the discipline.
Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to the selection of complex design features within the discipline.
Thorough working knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D computer-aided design tools in the development of extremely complex conceptual designs and production design deliverables within the design discipline.
Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
Knowledge of related construction practices and economics involved.
Extensive knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.
Thorough knowledge of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
Familiarity with unique, state-of-the-art technology, specialized suppliers of systems, equipment and materials in the global business unit.
