Buyer – Indirect Purchasing


AGCO, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of agricultural solutions, has an exciting career opportunity for a Buyer to join our team in Duluth, GA. The Buyer will assist in driving the development and implementation of AGCO’s global commodity strategies resulting in best-in-class quality, delivery, and total cost of ownership. Additionally, the Buyer supports multiple Strategic and Global Commodity Managers through RFQ execution, negotiations, market analysis, strategy development, contract management as well as data gathering and analysis. The Buyer also supports the North America and Global team by identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for both transactional and strategic purchasing. Success measured is based on spend addressed, value delivered, and overall service to stakeholders.


The most common Indirect Purchasing Commodities are, including but not limited to HR Services, Marketing, Global Travel, IT & Communications, Operations, MRO, Facilities Management, Professional Services & Fleet and Capital Expenditure.


Note: The Buyer may travel up to 15% of the time domestically/globally.


What Will You Do?

Responsibilities of the Buyer:

•           Accountable for savings target development and execution

•           Manages priorities and competing demands, with a sense of optimism, flexibility, and ownership, effectively managing internal customer expectations including special projects.

•           Responsible for RFQ preparation, execution and analysis.

•           For select commodities, develop and/or assist Purchasing and Commodity Managers execute long-term strategy deployment, supplier cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, make/buy analyses, negotiations, long-term contract establishment, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship development.

•           Develop a solid working knowledge of certain commodity trends including: industry trends, cost drivers, global and regional pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes.

•           Assist the Commodity Manager in successfully contracting suppliers to provide AGCO with cost-optimized commodities.

•           Work with Commodity Managers to support the Supplier Performance Review, including the coordination and support on-site supplier assessment / certification audits and continuous improvement activities that drive down total cost.

•           Investigate and inform Commodity Managers of new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary to support new product development, cost reduction requirements, and/or supplier performance issues.

•           Identify & Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase competitiveness, performance, productivity, responsiveness, lead time and quality, etc.

•           Improve team’s reporting capabilities in the form of increased data integrity and visual dashboard applying data scientist skills.



Basic Qualifications:

•           Bachelor’s degree in a Business or related disciplines (ie. Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Management, Commodities Management).

•           Entry level experience, 1-3 years, as a Buyer, Commodity Manager, Supply Chain Analyst, or another related commodity’s position managing, specifically in a manufacturing environment or with a manufacturing company.

•          Experience with savings target development and execution

Effective communicator with good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with a diverse internal team, executive leadership and suppliers. Effectively and positively presents solutions in ambiguous or difficult situations.

•           Solid orientation to relationship building and change management.

•           Good negotiation and analytical skills.

•           Understanding of multi-step strategic sourcing processes, e-commerce tools, consortium buys, off-shoring, insourcing, outsourcing and/or implementation of large projects.

•           Is results-oriented, proactive, demonstrating a degree of autonomy at global and cross-functional levels with solid strategic / long term planning skills and thought leadership.

•           Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including the ability to create Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPS and macros.

•           Showcases understanding of the enterprise wide financials, EBITDA, and working capital.


Preferred Qualifications:

•           MBA, or Master’s in a supply chain related degree, is preferred.

•           Experience working with OEM or Tier 1 automotive supplier.

•           Experience working with a Purchase To Pay, ERP system. E-sourcing technology

•           Intermediate in Tableau and Six Sigma methodology.

•           Other languages (such as Chinese, Portuguese, Hungarian, German, French, Finnish, Spanish).
