Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

The shift supervisor is directly responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all areas within the ‘Wet Side’ of the Ore Processing Department. This includes RM ADR, GH ADR, Dedicated Plant, Gravity Plant, All Pumping Stations including- Mine Dewatering (RIB) & Fresh Water Systems while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values. The shift supervisor also oversees the efficient operation of the Leach Pads & Refineries during the weekends & nightshifts.

Job Responsibilities

  • This persons responsibilities include but are not limited to: shift paperwork such as; employee performance logs, shift production reports, environmental reports, safety inspections / reports, vacation schedules/ coverage time sheets, shift logs, maintenance activity sheets, etc. Must have general knowledge of company rules and policies so that decisions made are in conformance with company requirements. Schedule work assignments and prioritize crew activities in consultation with the General Foreman. Guidance of crew members to ensure that a harmonious work environment is maintained when dealing with various personalities in the work force.
  • The shift supervisor is responsible for crew training to include signing of the MSHA 5000-23 forms for all applicable jobs in the department. This requires the person to be proficient in all Ore Processing operating stations (excluding Gravity Plant, but some knowledge of operation is necessary). This also includes all other auxiliary equipment.
  • This person must be knowledgeable of the safety and environmental policies of the company and the department, and see to it that  they are followed. Must be familiar with paperwork involved with safety and environmental issues. Must be able & willing to conduct weekly Safety Talks for the crew & any other assigned meetings.
  • Due to this person being held directly responsible for the operation of all plants within the Ore Processing Department, this person must be proficient in all operations of the ‘Wet Side’ of Ore Processing.
  • Must ensure that management is immediately informed of important information, such as changes to the process, equipment problems, employee problems and incidents.  During the off shifts, the shift supervisor must contact management for major incidents, any incident that causes a process loss in excess of 4 hours and any injury.  If an injury is involved, the Department Manager must be contacted as well.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

Education and Experience

  • Must be able to operate JDE, LIMS & an XRF machine.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the ‘Wet Side’ of the Ore Processing Department.
  • This person may be required to participate in maintenance planning and execution of routine and unscheduled maintenance. May also participate in Mine planning meetings during dayshift rotation.
  • Ensure that continuity and communication internal to the department as well as external to the department is maintained.
  • This person must have advanced process troubleshooting skills in all areas of the ‘Wet Side’ of Ore Processing.
  • Direct supervision of crewmembers as well as a shift mechanic and shift electrician.  Must also check in on the Assay Lab & Gravity Plant personnel during the off shifts.
  • Oversee all operations of the ‘Wet Side’ of the Ore Processing Department, to see that it is operating at its utmost capacity in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all personnel in the department and external to the department to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Will be held accountable to read and understand all procedures associated with the Ore Processing Department. Must also notify proper personnel when changes to procedures are necessary and communicate these changes to members of respective crews.
  • This person must be willing to attend required classes to increase their effectiveness as a supervisor. 
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
