The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, is a 395-store supermarket chain, with locations in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, under several banners.[2] Its corporate and U.S. headquarters are located in Montvale, New Jersey. The A&P is ranked № 19 in the 2010 "Top 75 Food Retailers and Wholesalers" based on 2009 fiscal year estimated sales of $9.1 billion. Based on 2009 revenue, A&P is the 34th largest retailer in the U.S. From 1927 through 1975, it was the dominant food retailer in the nation. A&P is widely considered an American icon.
